A Story That’s Still
Being Written
In 1930, the first incarnation of The Station was born as a gas station built by Standard Oil in McGregor, Iowa on the banks of the Mississippi River. For forty years, oil trucks would deliver oil to farmers and gas stations in the area. If an Iowan nearby needed fuel in the middle of the night, the drivers would be there to get it to them.
The spot has special significance to Station owner, Jen Westphal, who grew up in McGregor. Her father owned the Standard Oil station and worked as a jobber. Jen spent her summers as a young girl washing windows and pumping gas. Years later, Jen returned to McGregor with the vision of giving the building a new life, and The Station on Main was born.
The Station is inspired by Woerm’s Wiggle Inn, McGregor’s original burger place. Friday nights in McGregor were spent gathered around the jukebox, listening to music and watching people drive by. The menu had simple, great food made with fresh, local ingredients. We hope to create the same kind of community gathering space at The Station. For years, what would come to be known as The Station fueled up the vehicles of the area with oil and gas. These days, we prefer to fuel up people with great food.
Blending nostalgia, community spirit, and classic comfort food, The Station on Main brings new life to one of McGregor’s most iconic spaces while honoring the site's rich history and local roots.
